For a non-twisted solution, you can also try paramiko:
http://www.lag.net/paramiko/

It might be a bit easier to wrap your brain around if you are very new to
the twisted way of doing things.

It should also work nicely on Win32 (I haven't checked in a while but the
last time I used it it worked fine).
